Iron Cross formed in 1980 and was part of the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene. Their style of playing slower and more melodically led them to be called “America’s First Oi! Band.” In 1982 they were included on the influential “Flex Your Head” compilation along with bands such as Minor Threat, Government Issue and S.O.A. Later that year they released their first EP which included the song “Crucified For Your Sins” which went on to be a standard cover song by bands around the world, including Agnostic Front, and The Business. The next year, 1983, saw the release of their Hated and Proud EP with included the song “You’re A Rebel” later covered by bands such as the Dropkick Murphy’s and Kevin Seconds. The band called it a day in 1985 and Sab Grey returned to England. In 2000 they reformed and have been playing worldwide ever since. in 2008 they released a split 7″ EP with English hardcore band Keyside Strike. in 2011 the song “Pride and Freedom” from that EP was included on the Garry Bushell “30 years of Oi!” compilation along with Sab Grey’s solo take on the classic song “Skinhead Girl”. The band also traveled to Mexico that year to play a packed house in Mexico City. 2012 see’s the release of a new 5 song 7″EP on Skinflint records. it is distributed in Europe by Contra Records.
