BADMINTON RACQUET / BABY LABOUR split streaming in full

1 min read

Premiered over at Exclaim.

Badminton Racquet‘s “You Boys & Your Quilts” is the jauntier of the pair, as its exploratory structure includes crunchy chords and twiddly riffs up the fretboard. Baby Labour‘s “Coke Party,” on the other hand, is more jarring and dissonant in its intricate shifts and jumble-y rhythmic complexity.” – Alex Hudson (Exclaim!)

Badminton Racquet consists of Kyle Coveny on guitar and Nathan Campagnero on drums. Both played in the weirdo post-punk band Dutch Toko, while Campagnero played in Whoop-szo and currently holds down the bass in Esther Grey. Together they’ve played alongside some of Canada’s most interesting talent including Yamantaka//Sonic Titan, Soupcans, Life In Vacuum and Monomyth as well as New Orlean’s Math Rock aficionados Caddywhompus.

Baby Labour is the brainchild of Jazz student Dan Loughrin on guitar and Jake Cadieux on drums. Coming from different ends of the spectrum, Cadieux playing with the hardcore punk outfit Boar and Loughrin with Toronto’s indie rock Bare Claws, have found a shared love in their Baby Labour. The band has played with the likes of Each Other, Michael Rault and I Smell Blood.
